Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will begin her election campaign from Gopalganj on Wednesday through paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his mausoleum at Tungipara in Gopalganj.

AL Joint General Secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak disclosed this at a press conference at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office here this afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina will leave the capital Dhaka for Tungipara of Gopalganj by road from her official Ganabhaban residence at 8am, according to a faxed message, signed by Prime Minister’s APS-I Kazi Nishat Rasul sent to Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner.

Sheikh Hasina will place wreath at the grave of Bangabandhu and joined a munajat and offering of fateha at 12.30pm on the day.

She will address a public rally at the Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Government Degree College ground at Kotalipara in the district at 2.30pm.

Nanak said election manifesto of Awami League will be announced after the Victory Day on December 16.

Turning to BNP’s nomination, the AL leader said BNP’s nomination process was completed in an entirely undemocratic way bypassing rules.

He claimed there was a huge moneymaking in the BNP’s nomination process.

As per the allegations of BNP leaders and workers, BNP’s fugitive acting chairman Tarique Rahman was involved in the “nomination business”, he added.

He said agitating BNP leaders and workers resorted to vandalism and laid a siege on the party office and chairperson’s office and embarrassed senior leaders including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Nanak urged the Election Commission to take steps against BNP leaders for their involvement in money-making in the nomination process.

The AL leader said BNP-Jamaat clique is hatching conspiracies to carry out sabotage and violent acts to foil the upcoming parliamentary election fearing its certain defeat in polls.

Nanak said terrorist organization Chhatra Shibir’s several leaders were arrested with firearms and explosives from different parts of the country.

It hinted that BNP-Jamaat is hatching conspiracy to carry out acts of sabotage, he added.

He said the people will give their verdict in the election through ballots against BNP-Jamaat evil forces and its fire terrorism and subversive acts.

Nanak expressed his hope that pro-liberation force Awami League led grand alliance will achieve victory in the polls.-BSS
