Mental health is equally important for an individual likewise physical health. It is the state of subjective wellbeing (feeling of happiness) for best use of individual potentials. Individuals are naturally different. Two individuals may experience same eventualities and stresses in life, but react in different ways. One may be found easily copping with the stress, another may suffer from anxiety, insecurity or depression. It will affect subjective wellbeing of the person and therefore, cause to be distressed and adjustment problem with others.
 
What is Mental Health?
Mental health is a state of well-being in which the individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his own community (World Health Organization, 2007).
 
 
Who is Therapeutic Counselor?
A therapeutic counselor can support a distressed person to cope with the life events by changing the way of thinking. There is untruth fiction in our society that the person who visits psychologist is abnormal. People of developed countries perceive it as simple as taking PARACETAMOL in fever. Therapeutic counselor uses scientific research based techniques like Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) or other techniques without use of medication.
 
 
What is the area of work of a Therapeutic Counselor?
Individuals are considered as an organism of bio-psycho-social system. Biological, Psychological and Social systems work together to make an individual functional. If a person experiences any kind of trauma, it will affect psychological system by rendering anxiety or depression. This psychological system will then affect biological and social system by experiencing increased heart beat, or disinterest in mixing with people. The area of work of a Therapeutic Counselor is psychological system which influences other systems as well.
 
 
When to seek support from a Therapeutic Counselor?
Experiencing anxiety, depression or other difficulties is a common and natural phenomenon for every individual. But if it is prolonged and affects your regular daily activities, it is worthy to take support from a Therapeutic Counselor.
 
 
Gifted with Learning Disability (GLD) Children
A therapeutic counselor or psychologist who is expert in developmental disabilities may also extend hand to render support to the children with special need. Why a child is facing difficulties in academic attainment or not behaving according to age; may be diagnosed or classified by a psychologist or therapeutic counselor. Psychologist is the right person; who is authorized to administer Standardized Psychological Test   and interpret test result. You may also seek help and guidelines in this regard.
