The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday cleared way to hold Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) polls as it withdrew the stay imposed by its chamber judge court on the election.
“Stand will be over till March 31,” said a four member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.
Advocate Manjil Morshed, who moved a writ in this regard, said now there is no legal bar in holding the polls of DUCSU.
The High Court on January 17, 2018, ordered to hold the DUCSU polls within six months, prompting the university authorities to file a leave to appeal petition, pleading to stay the judgement.
After holding hearing on the plea, the Appellate Division Chamber Judge court on October 1, 2018, stayed the High Court order and sent the matter to Appellate Division full bench for further hearing.-BSS
