Stock markets closed on Wednesday of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were IT sector, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, engineering and textile.
A total of 124 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 9.92 points down at 5,265.84. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 2.74 points down at 1,210.45 and with 5.93 points down at 1,842.79.
The daily trade fell to 11.04 crore shares from Tuesday’s 11.29 crore shares. But the day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 487.39 crore from Taka 483.46 crore of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 340 securities, prices of 163 securities closed higher against 128 losing issues. The major gaining issues were Prime Life, Sun Life Insurance, Pragati Life, HR Tex and Al Haj Textile. The major losing companies were ISNLTD, Advent, Monno Ceramics, Monno Stafflers and All Tex.
JMISMDL topped the turnover list followed by Meghan Life, Square Pharma, SKTRIMS and VFSTDL.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 3.19 points down at 16,159.71.
At CSE, 243 issues were traded. Of those, 116 closed higher and 92 closed lower when 51.72 lakh shares worth Taka 16.93 crore changed hands.-BSS
