With two days left for the closing of the Amar Ekushey Granthamela-2017, the fair looked vibrant on its 26th day with increased number of visitors.
A total of 103 new books appeared today as 46 new books were unveiled.
The month-long book fair reverberated with interactions among readers, authors and publishers.
A discussion titled "Atmajibonimulak Shahitthya" was held in the main stage of the fair with Bangla Academy Director General Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan in the chair.
Islamic University Vice-Chancellor Dr Rashid Ashkari read out the key-note paper while Dr Saifuddin Chowdhury and Dr ASM Borhan Uddin addressed it.
Later, a cultural function was held where singers Ferdous Ara, Yakub Ali Khan, Lina Taposhi Khan, Sharmin Sathi Islam, Prodip Kumar Nandi, Suman Majumder, Mahbuba Rahman and Farhana Shirin performed.
Besides, visitors of all ages flocked to different stalls and pavilions to buy books of their favorite authors. Many of them were seen returning homes with bags of books.
The stall attendants were seen busy dealing with the visitors and big smiles flashed on the face of the publishers.
Apart from Bangla Academy premises, around 400,000-squarefeet area on Suhrawardy Udyan have been earmarked for the fair.
The Suhrawardy Udyan has been decorated with 12 divisions. Some 663 units have been allotted to 409 institutions at the academy and on Suhrawardy Udyan premises.
Besides, 14 publication houses including Bangla Academy got 15 pavilions covering an area of total 6,000 square feet. Some 100 little magazines have been allocated spaces at the Little Magazine Corner, south side of Burdwan House on the academy premises. -BSS
