2567 candidates from political parties, 498 independent file nomination papers

A total of 2,567 aspirants from political parties and 498 independent candidates have submitted nomination papers to the returning officers for contesting the national election slated for December 30.
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed disclosed the information at a press briefing tonight at Nirbachan Bhaban in city’s Agargaon.
He said some 281 candidates from Awami League, 696 from BNP, 233 from Jatiya Party and 1,357 from other political parties have submitted their nomination papers for candidature.
Some 281 Awami League candidates filed nomination papers in 264 parliamentary seats while 696 BNP aspirants in 295 seats.
A total of 3,065 final nomination papers were filed for the 300 constituencies while candidates from all 39 registered political parties submitted nomination papers to contest the election. As per the revised schedule of the 11th parliamentary election, the last date of nomination paper submission was November 28.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on December 2 and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is December 9 while voting will be held on December 30.-BSS
