Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is visiting Rohingya refugee camps at Kutupalong of Ukhiya Upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and a delegation reached Kutupalong Registered Camp for displaced Rohingya refugees at 11:30am Tuesday.
The prime minister told the media: “We gave them [Rohingya refugees] shelter in our country on humanitarian grounds. Our houses were also burnt down in 1971. People fled to India when they had nowhere to go. So we are doing everything in our power to help them."
“The Rohingya in Bangladesh are being provided with food and shelter. I urge the international community to exert pressure on Myanmar to repatriate the Rohingya. We will fulfill our responsibilities as a neighbour,” she added.
According to the United Nations, more than three lakh Myanmar nationals of Rohingya ethnicity intruded into Bangladesh in last two weeks after eruption of the latest spate of violenc in Rakhine State of Myanmar.
