An eleventh-hour goal by Jamal Bhuiyan helped Bangladesh under-23 football team to reach the knock out stage of the Asian Games when they edged past Qatar by a lone goal on Sunday at Chandrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi in Indonesia.
This was the first time Bangladesh moved to the knockout round berth in the Asian Games.
In the day’s match, Jamal Bhuiyan scored the all-important goal for Bangladesh with a perfect placing short from the vantage position in the 90+3 minute of the match.
With this result from Group B, Bangladesh secured four points from three matches while Qatar remained at their previous credit of one pint playing the same number of outings.
Uzbekistan have already sealed their position with nine points from three victories while Thailand are now in third position with two points.
The top two teams from each of the six groups and the four best third-place finishers will go through.
Earlier, Bangladesh was defeated by 0-3 against Uzbekistan in their group opening match and played out to a 1-1 draw against Thailand in their second match.
On the other hand, Qatar played out to a 1-1 goal draw against Thailand but suffered a heart breaking defeat of 0-6 goal to Uzbekistan down in their
