The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday appointed world famous cricketer Sakib Al Hasan as its goodwill ambassador to drum up campaigns against corruption to keep away the people, especially the young generation, from this social vice.
A formal agreement was inked between Sakib, the world's best all-rounder in all three forms of cricket, and the ACC at around 11 this morning at its Segunbagicha headquarters five months after the anti-graft body decided to appoint him as its goodwill ambassador.
Director General (prevention) Md Zafor Iqbal signed the agreement on behalf of the ACC while Sakib himself put signature on it.
Speaking on the occasion, Sakib said, "I feel proud to get the chance of working with the ACC in its endeavor to fight graft and will consider myself as a successful campaigner if even one person stay away from corruption due to my efforts."
He stressed the need for collective efforts to build a nation free from corruption and said, "I have started my journey afresh with the ACC to build a corruption-free country."
Presiding over the agreement signing ceremony, ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said, "Sakib Al Hasan has become the world's best cricket all-rounder with his talent, creativity and endless hard work which have made him a proud son of the country and inspiration for the young generation."
Describing the young generation as the source of all power, he posed a question, "If the youths take stand against the menace like Sakib, who has the ability of doing corruptions?"
The ACC boss advocated for using the full strength against corruption with support of all the stakeholders to stop the menace for ensuring development of the country, uplifting the living standard and making the country free from hunger, poverty and corruption.
Earlier in the morning, the ACC officials and employees received Sakib with flowers on his arrival at Segunbagicha headquarters here.-BSS
