BNP standing committee member Tariqul Islam passed away at a city hospital on Sunday. He was 72.
He breathed his last at the Appollo Hospitals at about 5pm.
Tariqul’s son son Anindyo Islam Amit confirmed media about the death.
He had long been suffering from various ailments including heart and kidney diseases.
Tariqul left behind his wife, two sons and host of relatives and political followers.
BSS: The first namaz-e-janaza of Tariqul will be held in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office at 10 am, the second namaz-e-janaza at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 11.15 am tomorrow.
Later, the body will be taken to his Jashore residence, and following his third namaz-e-janaza at Jashore Eidgah after Asr prayers, he will be buried at his family graveyard there.
Tariqul Islam was born on November 16 in 1946 in Jashore sadar.
In 1969, he completed his graduation and post-graduation from Rajshahi University in Economics.
Tariqul Islam was elected as member of parliament four times from his constituency in Jashore and served as the minister for information, environment and forests, social welfare and post and telecommunications.
In a message of condolence today, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu expressed profound shock at the death of Tariqul Islam.
He also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
