Food Minister Advocate Md Qamrul Islam on Tuesday said the next national election will be held in a free, fair and neutral manner as per the constitution under the present government.
"The next national election will be held in due time. It is not an affair of Awami League to see who will take part in the polls or not. As per the constitution, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead the poll-time government and assist the Election Commission (EC)," he said, addressing a memorial meeting on former AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil in the city.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organized the meeting marking the death anniversary Abdul Jalil at the Jatiya Press Club here, said an official release.
Qamrul urged the BNP to take preparations for participating in the next polls without exhausting energy for waging movements and said, "We want to see a free, fair and neutral election with the participation of all".
Speaking on BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's bail, the minister said she got bail from the court yesterday and it proves that the government has no interference on the judiciary.
About Abdul Jalil, the minister said, was an activist-friendly leader. He used to love leaders and activists of the party as well as the country and its people, he added.
Adviser of the organisation Chitta Ranjan Das chaired the meeting that was addressed by AL Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Advocate Talukder Md Younus and film actress Natun, among others.-BSS
