Food Minister Qamrul Islam on Thursday said Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is trying to make a friendship with Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice (CJ) SK Sinha centering the verdict on 16th amendment of the Constitution.
"BNP is also trying to impress CJ by applauding him," the minister said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest on Kabi Jasim Uddin hall premises of Dhaka University (DU) campus.
The hall unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organised the discussion, marking the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day.
Chaired by hall unit BCL President Arif Hossain, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Provost Professor Rahmat Ullah, Central BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag, General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain, BCL DU unit president Abid Al Hasan and secretary Motahar Hossain Prince.
Qamrul said, "BNP has created a tension over the verdict in the country and they are praising CJ to make friendship with him ... but none will be friend of Awami League (AL), who are trying to be friend of CJ".
"People, who hatched conspiracies in 1971, are still active to foil the upcoming national election" he added.
He urged the leaders and activists of BCL to stay alert and work for the party as a 'vanguard'.-BSS
