Two drug traders were killed in a gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Sabbir Hossain, 25 and Hafijur Rahman, 35.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Shah Alam, acting company commander of RAB-7 Teknaf office, said that when a covered van was crossing a check post of RAB in Domdomia area around 2:30 am, the force signaled it to stop.
Denying signal, the drug peddlers opened fire on lawmen, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.
Sabbir and Hafizur received bullets when they were trying to flee the scene and died on the spot.
However, others managed to flee, said the RAB official.
The RAB team also recovered 40,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, a foreign made revolver, a one-shooter gun and 11 round bullets from the spot.
