Awami League (AL) General Secretary on Monday said the new council of ministers has been formed aiming to fulfill the pledges made by Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina in the election manifesto.
“Our PM has formed the new cabinet which is capable to implement the manifesto declared by Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina ahead of the 11th parliamentary election,” said Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister.
He was addressing a press conference held at the conference room of his ministry at the Secretariat here today.
“The range of the cabinet may be extended as per requirement… No one will be able to remain minister without performing his/her duty with upmost sincerity. The formation of new cabinet will not create any internal feud in Awami League as there is no discontent over the formation of the new government,” he added.
The new cabinet comprises both new as well as senior leaders, he said, adding that the PM knows well about the reason why she excluded some senior leaders from the new council of ministers.
“We should not say that they (senior leaders) were left out from the new cabinet… Their responsibilities just have been changed. They should concentrate on the party’s activities,” he said.
Mentioning the stand of the present government over corruption, he said, the government now is in a strict position to combat it, adding, more directives will be given in this regard for maintaining good governance.
Talking about the challenges of the new government, he said “Implementation of the election manifesto is one of our major challenges and the new cabinet is formed to attain that goal.”
Highlighting Sheikh Hasina’s point of view on the formation of the new cabinet, he said the premier emphasized on the leaders of AL who have been deprived of being ministers for a long.
He said the grand alliance partners will support the new cabinet although they are not members of new cabinet.
He said the decision of Jatiya Party to perform as opposition party in the parliament is good for the democracy.-BSS
