A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Hasna Hena, a teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, to jail after rejecting her bail in a case filed for provoking Aritree Adhikary, a ninth-grader of the school, to commit suicide.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Abu Sayeed passed the order after police inspector Kamrul Hasan Talukdar produced her before his court with a prayer for confining her in jail.
On the other hand, defence lawyer Jahangir Alom submitted a petition seeking her bail stating that his client was not involved with the incident and she was not present during the time of examination.
A team of DB Police arrested Hasna Hena from a hotel in city’s Uttara area last night in connection with a case in which she was allegedly accused of instigating Aritry’s suicide.
Viqarunnisa Noon School and College principal and two other teachers, whose rude behaviors allegedly prompted a ninth grade girl of the rated school to commit suicide, were suspended amid mounting public anger.
The government, however, stopped their monthly pay order (MPO), the government contribution to the teachers’ salary, over teenage Aritry Adhikary’s suicide.
The three teachers are acting principal Nazneen Ferdous, shift-in- charge of morning shift Jeenat Ara and Aritry’s class teacher Hasna Hena.
The girl’s father Dilip Adhikary filed a case with Paltan Thana accusing the three teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College on December 4.
According to the one-page complaint lodged with police, the girl went to the school with the cell phone on December 3 when one of the three teachers seized the device and asked her parents to report to her next day.
Adhikary alleged that as he along with his wife went to the school along with their daughter they were received with humiliation while class teacher Hasna Hena kept them waiting for a long time and eventually appeared with a very agitated mood and “told us that Aritry will be given a TC”.
A humiliated Aritry then suddenly disappeared from the principal’s room leaving her parents there and went back her nearby house where she hanged herself with the ceiling fan locking the doors of her room.-BSS
