Suspected drug trader killed in Rangpur ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Radhakrishnapur Ghaghotpara in Rangpur city early Friday.
Deceased Shawkat Ali Ghughu, 33, son of Bachchu Miah, was a resident of Deudoba Dangirpara area of the city.
The gunfight occurred when an operational team of RAB-13 came under gun attacks of 3 to 4 drug traders during an anti-drug drive conducted there on
secret information in the early hours of today.
“When the shooting stopped, drug trader Ghughu was found laying on the spot with bullet injury though his other cohorts could flee from the scene,” said Kahndaker Golam Mortuza, a media wing member of RAB-13.
The elite force rushed the injured person to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where the attending physician declared him dead.
Fire arms, sharp weapons and drugs were recovered from the spot, he added.
Shawkat was accused in 13 cases including those of drugs and robbery, the police official added.
