Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Sunday urged the homebound people not to board a launch as ‘extra passenger’.
He also called on the owners and workers to refrain from plying their vessels in bad weather and collecting additional fare from passengers travelling on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Azha.
The minister made the call while visiting the Sadarghat Launch Terminal here, said an official handout.
He said the ministry, BIWTA, Coast Guard, Police and administration are working sincerely to ensure safe journey for the people, adding that the country didn’t witness any big launch accident in last four years due to awareness of passengers, owners, workers and all concerned in the sector.
The number of vessels, he said, has been increased as more people travel during the Eid festival than other times.
Later, the minister inaugurated a newly built mosque in Terminal Bhaban-2 and office of the Dhaka River Port controller.
