Top drug peddler killed in Chandpur 'gunfight'

A drug peddler was killed in a gunfight with the police members in Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Jakir Hossain, 40, son of Abdul latif, a resident of Swarna village. He was wanted in eight drug related cases.
On secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30am, said Javedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Hajiganj Police station.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police, prompting them to fire back for self-denfence.
Jakir was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injury, police said.
Later, he was taken to Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Four policemen were injured during the gunfight. 
Police also recovered a pipe-gun, four bullets, four knives and two sharp weapons from the scene.
