Two suspected drug traders were killed in 'gunfights' with the Rapid Action Battalion in Dhaka and Kushtia early Tuesday.
In Kushtia, Hamidul Islam, chief of Hamidul Bahini, and resident of Etbhata area, was killed in a reported gunfight with the RAB in Char Milpara area around 5:22am.
RAB-12 said that being tipped off that a gang of drug and arms trader was staying there, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area.
Sensing the presence of the elite force, the gang members opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gun battle. Later, the law enforcers recovered bullet-hit body of Hamidul.
Meanwhile, two pistols, one foreign and another locally made, five rounds of bullet and two magazines were seized from the spot.
In Dhaka, a drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the RAB on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Chittagong road early Tuesday.
RAB said that being tipped off that a big consignment of Yaba was coming from Cox's Bazar, a team of the RAB set up a check-post in the area around 4:00am.
Over suspicious movement, the RAB signaled a truck to stop at the check-post early morning.
Denying the order, the Yaba traders opened fire on the elite force from inside the truck, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the 'gunfight', leaving a man on the spot.
