Five people were killed as a commuter train derailed at Natun Bazar area in Tongi of Gazipur on Sunday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
The incident took place at Notunbazar area near Tongi railway station around 12;30pm. Since the incident, rail communication between Gazipur and northern parts of the country remained suspended.
Confirming the incident, Station Officer of Tongi Fire Service Md Atikur Rahman said, five bogies of a Dhaka-bound 'Commuter Train' from Jamalpur veered off the rail track in Notun Bazar area of Tongi, leaving its four passengers dead on the spot and several injured.
The injured were sent to different hospital and clinics.
Of the wounded people, five were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.
Rail communication of Dhaka with rest parts of the country has remained suspended following the accident, Tongi Railway Station Government Railway Police (GRP) Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Delwar Hossain said.
