The Supreme Court on Tuesday removed all legal bars from appointing 2201 people as senior officers, officers and cash officers at Sonali Bank Limited.
"The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today withdrew status quo imposed earlier in 2016 by the apex court on making the appointment. The court also dismissed five leave to appeal petitions filed by the job seekers in this regard," bank lawyer Barrister Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury told newsmen.
Sonali Bank Limited authorities in 2016 published three advertisements for making the appointments against those three posts. But later 474 job seekers filed a writ with the High Court challenging the advertisement.
The High Court on July 27, 2017, dismissed the writ. The petitioners later filed five leave to appeal petitions with the Appellate Division, seeking court's permission in filing appeals against the High Court order. Accepting the pleas, the apex court ordered maintaining status quo on the appointment process.-BSS
