Two Bangladeshis were killed while six others were injured when the van they were travelling in skidded on the East Coast Highway 1, in Kuantan city of Malaysia’s Pahang state.

Of the deceased, one was identified as Hossain Forhad, 36, a contract worker while the other yet to be identified, reports The Straits Times.

The identity of five other Bangladeshis who were injured in the 4.45pm crash have yet to be confirmed, Temerloh district police chief ACP Zundin Mahmood told media.

The van driver, Mohd Kamarul Baharin, 52, is also among the injured.

“The accident is believed to have been caused by the sleepy driver which resulted the van to skid into a drain on the left side of the road,” he said.

He added that the bodies and all injured were sent to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital.
