The High Court (HC) on Monday issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain why dope test prior to government job entry and blood test prior to marriage should not be declared compulsory.
The HC bench of justices JBM Hasan and Md Khairul Alam came up with the rule following a writ filed in this regard.
The court asked Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary, Health Secretary, Director General of Directorate General of Health Services, Director General of Department of Narcotics Control and Inspector General of Police to reply the rule within four weeks.
The court also asked why it shall not make compulsory to submit medical certificate before marriage.
Supreme Court lawyer advocate Syeda Shahin Ara Laili filed the writ on July 5, pleading court’s direction to make compulsory blood test to determine presence of thalassemia, drugs in the blood of men and women before marriage or joining any job.
