The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a High Court order on providing division to noted photographer Shahidul Alam in jail.
The SC also dismissed the leave to appeal petition filed by the government challenging the HC order.
Now, there is no legal bar for Shahidul to get division facilities in jail following the SC order.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam appeared for the government while Barrister Sara Hossain argued for Shahidul.
On September 17, a chamber judge upheld the High Court order to provide Shahidul the privilage.
Earlier on September 5, the HC directed the authorities concerned to provide first division to the founder of the Drik Gakkery and the Pathshala South Asian Media Institute.
Shahidul Alam was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5 and a case was filed against him with Ramna Police Station the following day for spreading propaganda through his Facebook account during the student movement demanding for safe roads.
