The Supreme court has stayed a High Court (HC) order that had granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in two violence cases filed in Cumilla.
Responding to the state’s appeal challenging the bail order, Chamber Judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order on Tuesday.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while lawyers Khandaker Mahbub Hossain moved for Khaleda Zia in the court.
Earlier on Monday morning (May 28), the HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan granted bail to Khaleda Zia in two cases; however, rejected bail in a libel case of Narail as it had not been placed before it.
Later in the day, the government filed an appeal with the Chamber Court of Appellate Division seeking stay on the High Court bail order.
