The High Court (HC) on Tuesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why it shall not pass an order to give Taka one crore in compensation to the family of Dhaka Tribune official Nazim Uddin, who died in a road accident in the capital on May 17.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice A.K.M. Zahirul Hoque passed the order today, acting on its own motion.
The court asked home secretary, the road transport secretary, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), Shraban Paribahan and Monjil Paribahan authorities to reply the rule.
Nazim, a senior advertising executive at Dhaka Tribune, was crushed to death by a bus of Shraban Paribahan on Mayor Hanif Flyover in the capital as the bus was allegedly in a racing with another bus of Manjil Paribahan.
A daily newspaper ran a report the next day on the sad incident and Supreme Court lawyer ABM Golam Mostafa Taj drew the court's attention to the report. After holding primary hearing on the matter, the High Court issued the rule.
Nazim, from Lalmohan Upazila of Bhola, just became father of his second daughter three days before the accident.-BSS
