The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Thursday scrapped a High Court order that stayed the Gazipur City Corporation elections for three months.
The court also ordered the Election Commission to hold Gazipur city polls by June 28.
A four-member bench of the SC led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order.
The High Court on May 6 stayed for three months the GCC polls, issuing a rule on the authorities concerned to explain as to why inclusion of six mouzas (areas) of Savar in GCC shall not be declared illegal.
After the order, Awami League mayor candidate Jahangir Alam and BNP mayor candidate Hasan Uddin Sarkar and the EC filed three separate appeals with the Appellate Division.
