SK Sinha resigns, says president’s press secretary

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has sent resignation letter to Bangabhaban and president has accepted his resignation letter, Joynal Abedin, press secretary to the president, said on Saturday.
Justice Sinha who is now abroad sent the resignation letter to Bangabhaban, the official residence of President Abdul Hamid, this morning, Joynal Abedin said.
Reason behind his resignation could not be known yet as the press secretary could not give details of the contents in the letter or through whom it was sent.
Sinha was widely criticised by ministers and ruling party leaders for his observations made in the verdict that had annulled the 16th amendment to the Constitution.
SK Sinha assumed office on January 17, 2015 as the country's 21st Chief Justice. He will go on retirement on January 31 next.
