The High Court will deliver its verdict on death reference and appeals in the BDR carnage case on Nov 26.
A three-member special HC bench led by Justice Md Shawkat Hossain will deliver the verdict in the sensational case.
Deputy Attorney General Zahid Sarwar Kajal said that the HC bench published on Thursday (Nov 9) that its Sunday’s (Nov 12) work list includes delivering the verdict on death references and appeals in the BDR case on Nov 26.
After concluding hearing in the case earlier on April 13, The HC kept the verdict pending.
Hearing on the death references (death sentences issued by trial court forwarded to HC for approval) and appeals started from January 5 in 2015.
On November 5 in 2013, a trial court sentenced death penalty to 152 members of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) for killing 74 people including 57 army officers in the February 25-26 in City’s Pilkhana known as 2009 BDR mutiny massacre.
The court also handed down imprisonment, ranging from three to 10 years, to 256 other accused and acquitted 277 accused.
The government later appealed against the acquittal of 69 of them.
A total of 846 people including 823 BDR personnel stood trial in the case.
The BDR mutiny case, because of so many accused in a single case, is the biggest ever criminal case in the history of Bangladesh.
