The High Court (HC) on Wednesday commuted the jail term of former BNP minister Nazmul Huda to four years from seven years in a bribery case.

The court also asked Huda, chief of newly-formed Bangladesh Nationalist Alliance, to surrender before a trial court within 45 days.

The bench said that Sigma Huda sentence would be considered as served out because she had earlier suffered in jail in this case.

HC had earlier acquitted them, but the Appellate Division scrapped it and sent it back for a fresh hearing.

On August 27 in 2007, a Dhaka court jailed Nazmul Huda for seven years and Sigma Huda for three years in the bribery case filed by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC).
