The Appellate Division on Monday extended till October 5 its earlier order that gave six-month time to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to relocate its building from Hatirjheel area in Dhaka.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foyez Siddique set the date after the time petition filed by BGMEA seeking one-year more time to shift its headquarters from Hatirjheel was placed before the court this morning.
The regular appellate division bench led by Chief Justice SK Sinha will hear the petition on that day.
Advocate Kamrul Islam Siddiqui and Barrister Imtiaj Moinul Islam moved for the petition while attorney general Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
In the petition, the garment makers requested the apex court to postpone the demolition of the controversial BGMEA office for a year as they are not fully prepared to flatten such a big building.
On March 12, the court ordered to start the demolition of the 15-storey building within six months or by September 12.
