The High Court (HC) on Wednesday ordered owner of capital's Mouchak Market to renovate the shopping complex immediately while keeping it running for businesses.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order today accepting a plea of the traders of the market.
Earlier on June 6, 2016, the High Court had asked the government to close Mouchak Market in the capital and leave its shutter down until a repair job done as par the direction of BUET or acquiring a certificate from varsity, declaring the building safe.
The court had asked the Housing and Public Works Secretary and RAJUK to implement the direction of the court.
But following a writ filed by the traders, the apex court the very next day stayed the High Court order, saying the business owners can keep their shops open for six weeks but at their own responsibility.-BSS
